Preparing snack in the Children's Kitchen
We had a wonderful week in Reception Class & Playgroup. As it is 'winter' and the days are colder we spent more time indoors. The children have started to prepare snack in our Children's Kitchen.
The children are developing their thinking and listening skills. The children are following two and three part instructions. E.g. 'Stand opposite Bob and take a grape from the bowl.' They have to use one hand to hold a grape and the other hand to cut it! The children are learning that they have to be careful with knives. The children are learning the names of kitchen utensils such as chopping board and are listening to adjectives such as juicy, soft, squishy, sharp, crunchy. They are counting how many pieces they have cut the brioche into. The children are learning that pancakes and brioche are a treat and that fruit and milk are good for us. The children are learning not to cut the fruit into pieces that are 'too small.' The children are trying to be fair by making the pieces of bread 'equal' in size. The children are cutting the 'square' shaped bread down the 'middle.' The children are learning that grapes are dangerous if they do not cut them! The children are developing strength in their fingers by peeling an orange. The children have to match the correct colour of cup with the plate. The children recognise one-to-one correspondence e.g. one chair, needs one plate and one cup and one knife. The children have to listen carefully! The children are learning to clean as they go. Next week the children will wring out their own cloths and use a dust pan and brush to keep the floor clean after they prepare snack.
The photographs show the holistic learning that takes place in our kitchen as the children in Reception Class & Playgroup prepare snack.
