Welcome to the Reception Class & Playgroup in Holy Family Primary School.
Mrs McCullagh, Rolanda and Sharon strive to provide a secure and stimulating environment where every child is respected as an individual. Your child will have plenty of opportunities to grow and develop in every area, in order to reach their full potential.
Our Reception Class / Playgroup caters for 24 girls and boys, aged between 3 and 4 years old. We work in partnership with parents and carers, to provide a stimulating, positive experience for each child. We promote independence, creativity and self-esteem, by encouraging the children to participate in challenging play
In Reception we place as much emphasis on outdoor learning as indoor learning. In recent years we have developed our outdoor areas. The children spend as much time outdoor as possible. The padded, waterproof puddlesuits ensure the children are kept warm and dry in all weathers. We work closely with our parents and grandparents throughout the year to maximise our gardening potential! We have recently installed a new children’s kitchen where the children prepare the daily snack. We want the children to experience growing and cooking their own food – from ‘plot to pot.’ We have created an outdoor and indoor space where our children develop physically, socially, cognitively, linguistically, emotionally and spiritually.
As a ‘reception’ class our numbers can fluctuate annually (linked to Year 1 capacity). Also the children who accept a ‘reception’ class space can only start on their fourth birthday. To help combat these issues and to maximise our capacity we established ‘Holy Family Playgroup.’ Children can be part of the playgroup before their fourth birthday and then avail of their ‘reception’ class place and those children that are unsuccessful in gaining a ‘reception’ class place can accept a ‘playgroup’ space. We run both entities as a ‘nursery’. However, regardless of your child’s method of admission, all children receive the same provision. Contact the school for more information.
